English Boot Camp

The Thunderbird Language and Culture Programs (TLCP) offer an English Boot Camp, uniquely designed for students who do not speak English as their native language. The English Boot Camp program builds business English skills and confidence for international students entering Thunderbird's MBA and master's programs or another graduate business program.

The English Boot Camp is a 2-week program with 25 hours of instruction per week or 50 hours total for the English Refresher Program. The English Boot Camp program is a separate program and is not combined with the 10-week Pre-MBA/Master's Intensive English Program.

English Boot Camp Program Objectives

  • To prepare international students for the rigors of an MBA or master's program
  • To help students make a smooth transition into the MBA or master's program, the two-week English Boot Camp will focus on:
    1. The case study method and case discussion
    2. Speaking, writing, and grammar review
    3. Presentation skills and pronunciation

Dates for the English Boot Camp Program

January 3-12, 2012*
July 30-August 10, 2012

* Classes will be held Saturday, January 7, 2012.

Prerequisites for the English Boot Camp Program

  • Undergraduate degree
  • TOEFL score of 98-99 iBT (247-249 CAT) (597 PBT), an IELTS score of 7.0, or a PTE score of 67
  • Minimum GMAT score of 550*

Business professionals and student spouses who have sufficient English skills may also apply and will be considered for admission on an individual basis.

*The minimum required GMAT score to attend the English Boot Camp is 550. Admittance and attendance of the English Boot Camp does not guarantee admission to Thunderbird's MBA or master's programs.

Tuition for the English Boot Camp Program

2 students: USD $3450/student
3 students: USD $2650/student
4+ students: USD $1850/student
