Najafi Global Mindset® Institute

The Preeminent Source for the Science and Practice of Global Leadership

Define. Measure. Develop.

Najafi Global Mindset® Institute, located at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, ranked #1 in the world for international business, is centered on creating a positive impact in a world economy in dire need of global leadership, global talent and global knowledge.

The focus of Najafi Global Mindset Institute is to: Define, MeasureDevelop today’s Global Mindset and its relationship with successful global leadership.

Success in business is as much about understanding cultures
and globalization as it is about understanding finance and marketing.

Define

Global Mindset is defined as a set of attributes and characteristics that help global leaders better influence individuals, groups and organizations unlike themselves.

Najafi Global Mindset Institute has developed, through rigorous scientific research, a quantitative approach to defining and assessing someone’s ability to influence others who are different than oneself. This assessment is the Global Mindset Inventory.

The Global Mindset Inventory (GMI), is the result of hundreds of hours of interviews with more than 200 global executives and other distinguished scholars. The GMI was created to define Global Mindset as a set of attributes and individual characteristics that help global leaders better influence individuals, groups and organizations unlike themselves.

Measure

The Global Mindset Inventory is a web-based survey developed through a rigorous scientific process including a series of GMI pilot tests with more than 1,000 global managers.

The GMI measurement survey is comprised of 76 questions and takes an average of 10 minutes to complete. The GMI measures an individual or a group’s Global Mindset in terms of Intellectual Capital, Psychological Capital and Social Capital.

Najafi Global Mindset Institute’s database currently has almost 15,000 respondents from more than 140 countries.

Develop

Najafi Global Mindset Institute is dedicated to continued research and the development of new tools to increase the depth and breadth of the Institution's work.

The design of continued leadership development offerings is one of the main focuses of the Institute. These offerings, such as courses, workshops, and programs focused on strengthening Global Mindset for use in corporations, academic institutions, or for the non-profit/governmental sectors, bring a practical use to the research portion of the Institute’s work.

Promoting global scholarly research is a priority for the Institute. The research being done will further develop our understanding of the metrics, determinants and linkages of Global Mindset to the individual, group or organization

History

Beginning in 2005, eight professors with expertise in global business and cross-cultural communications interviewed over 200 global executives.

These professors collaborated with other distinguished scholars around the world to define the concept of Global Mindset and develop metrics and scientific instruments to measure an individual, group, or  organization’s profile of Global Mindset. The result is the Global Mindset Inventory (GMI).

Najafi Global Mindset Institute has conducted almost 15,000 GMI surveys and has certified more than 100 GMI Certified Facilitators globally.

Research

Najafi Global Mindset Institute is devoted to promoting and supporting scholarly research to further develop our understanding of topics such as: leadership effectiveness in cross-cultural contexts; theoretical and empirical linkages between Global Mindset and the effectiveness in global leadership; and the practical application of the Global Mindset to corporations, academic institutions, and the non-profit and government sectors.

Generating and disseminating Global Mindset research and knowledge to a wider academic audience through non-classroom educational settings, such as conferences, panel discussions, published documents, etc, is a strong directive of the Institute.
